Vehicle Collision Checklist
What are the steps I should take if I am in an accident?
- Report your accident to the police so they can do an accident report and document that the collision was not your fault and the fault of the other driver.
- If it is safe to do so: take photos of the scene, the vehicle damage, any visible injuries you have, and the license plates of the vehicles involved.
- Immediately seek medical attention. Even if you deem your injuries to be minor, seek treatment at your primary care physician or report to any MedExpress to document what you are experiencing. Oftentimes your pain increases in the days after the collision, which should also be addressed by a doctor.
- Call our office promptly after you are safe, and you are being treated by a medical professional so we can timely investigate your case and protect your rights under Pennsylvania law.
- Follow up with your doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and chiropractors and explain in detail your injuries at every visit. Let them know if you are still in pain and how your injuries are affecting your daily activities.
- Make sure to let the receptionist at your treatment appointments that your treatment is in connection with the collision. That way the bills will properly go to your car insurance medical benefits and not your personal health insurance until your medical benefits have been exhausted.
- Document and photograph how your injuries are healing. Take photographs if you must use medical equipment such as a wheelchair, crutches, a foot boot, a cast, a medical brace, and any other medical supplies that you may need.
- Keep notes on any tasks or activities that you are unable to do and if you have to hire outside help, keep the invoices so they may be included in your claim.
- Forward our team at Motheral Jones Law any medical bills that you may be receiving. That includes co-pays, prescriptions, or any other out-of-pocket expenses you have to pay.
- Document any time you are forced to take off from work, lost wages, or lost vacation days.
- Focus on getting better while we handle all of the phone calls and make sure everything is running smoothly.
